This is the dream expressed within a dream, prior to all dreams.–Dogen Zenji
The dream-like nature of reality is a teaching on the empty yet apparent nature of experience. It is a teaching of liberation and love. The Dharma teachings remind us to regard experience as dream. Could it be that our thoughts, ideas and views of separation–are as insubstantial as a dream?
Great teachers throughout the buddhist tradition (including the Buddha’s wife and mother, as well as Keizan Zenji one of the founders of Soto Zen in Japan) have used their nighttime dreams as a realm of practice.
During this evening we will explore the nature of experience through the lens of dream. The evening will include a dharma talk and teachings on dreams, meditation and zen, as well as guided and silent meditation. Optional dream tea will be served to aid in bringing lucidity and awareness to our waking and sleeping experience.
What is a dream made of? Where do they come from? Where do they go? These are crucial inquiries for a person on the path of liberation, the path of awakening, the path of dreaming.
